I love animal ornaments and collectables of any kind, everyone who knows me, knows this - so I tend to get lots of animal themed gifts, which I love. I also find myself drawn to them when out shopping. When scouring the antique markets or collectable fairs and in particular charity shops I often end up taking the odd looking, chipped or damaged one’s home, as I feel if I don't they might get “left on the shelf”.
In-conjunction with this I managed to become the “fixer” of broken ornaments for my Gran, who in her later years did tend to knock things off shelves quite a lot! So I glued, filled and painted a few items for her. This continued with my parents when they broke a large advertising piece that my mum absolutely loved (Baker/Butcher in an apron). I re attached his arm, filled and repainted him, freshening him up. I found I was reasonably successful at this and also really enjoyed breathing a new sense of purpose and life into old items that otherwise could have been thrown away.
With us all trying to recycle or repurpose items where possible and become a more sustainable and economical society in general, this hobby has taken on a new meaning, as along with eliminating our disposable attitude to these items and trying to make them better than they originally were, I can utilise my arts & crafts skills and make sure the pre-loved are re-loved 😊
This is how I came up with ReviveRevibe and am hoping to develop and build my stock until I can start selling items online and offering a service to revive others damaged, broken or old ornaments.
These are a couple of my recent projects (apologies for the backgrounds, they were shots just taken at the time of rework for my own benefit and during the different stages of transformation):
Chipped and Damaged Lakeland Terrier - Now Glitzed up and happily in a new life "Blue"
&
Chipped and Damaged German Shepherd - Now Dazzling and proudly sitting pretty "Red Rex", not quite finished yet, awaiting his top coat to seal and facial detailing.
